A shoplifter who snagged himself a expensive Tommy Hilfiger jacket without the trouble of paying, was caught by Gardaí the same day while wearing it.

Paul Druse, of Ard na Gaoithe, Knocktallon, Co. Monaghan entered a plea to theft and public order charges at Galway District Court,

On the morning of September 20, 2020, Druse was seen on CCTV at the Tommy Hilfiger store on Shop Street entering the shop and putting on a jacket, before leaving without paying.

He was arrested at Raven’s Terrace later the same day, still wearing the stolen jacket. The jacket, which cost €299, was damaged and not able to be sold.

Druse was also before the court for public order offences in Bohermore this January, and for failing to come to a court appearance in March while he was on bail.

His solicitor Valerie Corcoran said that Druse he has alcohol difficulties, for which he has completed residential rehab in the past, but relapsed.

The court heard that he is currently serving a five month sentence imposed at Cavan District Court.

Judge Mary Fahy sentence him to three months in prison for the theft charge, to be served after his current sentence, with concurrent sentences for the public order and failing to appear before the court.
