A 39 year old man admitted to stealing the catalytic converter from multiple cars, as well driving into a Garda car, in one very busy day.

Thomas Sweeney of 214 Castle Park, Ballybane appeared before Galway Circuit Court where he pleaded to six offences which all occurred on September 26, 2019.

He pleaded guilty to stealing the catalytic converter from two cars in the Claregalway area that day, each valued in the region of €1,500, as well as criminal damage to the same cars.

He has also been charged with, and pleaded to, endangering the life of another by driving into a Garda car at speed with people present at Kiltullagh, and dangerous driving at Castle Park, Ballybane.

Counsel for Mr Sweeney asked for the case to be put back so that he could enter a residential treatment programme for addiction issues.

It was also requested that the court order the preparation of a probation report and medical report.

The case was adjourned to November 3 of this year for sentencing, with the direction that he will be under the supervision of the probation services in the mean time.
