Spanish investment management firm Asterion Industrial Partners has acquired a majority share in the company delivering the National Broadband Plan.
The government gave their consent to Asterion acquiring an 80% stake in National Broadband Ireland back in July, and that has gone through this week.
To date, the National Broadband Plan has created connections for fibre broadband at 91,000 homes and businesses in Ireland.
In Galway, there are approximately 40,000 premises which will be connected under the NBP, which includes homes, farms, commercial businesses and schools.
Under the plan, County Galway will see an investment of €153M in the new high speed fibre network.
The most recent development at the beginning of this month saw construction commence on rolling out the network to just over 1,000 premises in Inverin.
