The US based medical devices manufacturer Natus Medical has opened a massive expansion of its facilities in Gort that will see the local workforce grow to 200.

Natus Medical has today opened a new Distribution Centre for its medical devices in the IDA Business Park in Gort.

The custom-built 22,000 square foot facility expands the existing Natus facility in Gort to over 66,000 square feet.

Along with a multi-million dollar investment in the development of the new facility in Gort, the company expects to hire an initial 25 employees to support the facility expansion in the coming months.

The full expansion plan will see more hires as Natus grows it Gort workforce from 125 people to 200 over the next three years.

Sean Langan, Vice President of Global Operations for Natus commented, “The opening of this new Distribution Centre marks an important milestone for the Gort, Ireland facility.

“This expansion is a significant vote of confidence in the local team, which will increase our manufacturing and distribution footprint significantly in Ireland.”

“The excellent performance of the site and the high calibre of our staff in Gort, together with the support of IDA Ireland, has resulted in our ability to create this growth opportunity.”

The new roles being created in Gort will support all areas of the business, from production, quality, regulatory, manufacturing, engineering, customer service, finance and supply chain.

Jonathan Kennedy, CEO of Natus Medical said that the Gort facility is an essential part of their global manufacturing and distribution chain.

The location has the advantages of an “advanced infrastructure, a high-performance culture and top-level talent” Mr Kennedy said.

Galway East TD and Minister of Sate Seán Canney said it was great to see new employment opportunities being created in regional towns like Gort.

“Natus Medical is already a substantial employer in Gort and the wider Galway area. This expansion, adding a significant number of extra jobs in the coming years, will be of substantial added benefit to the local economy.”

Natus Medical is based out of Pleasanton, California, with a total global workforce of more than 1,800 people.

The company is a leading provider of medical devices and services used for the screening, treatment and monitoring of common medical conditions in newborn care, hearing, balance impairment, neurological dysfunction, neurosurgery and sleep disorders.

IDA Ireland Executive Director, Mary Buckley congratulated Natus on the opening, which she said shows a strong commitment to continued operations in Gort.

The massive expansion, both in operations and in local jobs “shows how a global company like Natus can operate and grow successfully from a regional location,” she added.
