Galway consumers are being urged to support Irish businesses and jobs by making an effort to support local retailers as they reopen in the lead up to Christmas.
Galway Senator Aisling Dolan is asking people to ‘Look For Local’ as many businesses re-open this week.
“Now is the time to buy gifts for our nearest and dearest from shops and businesses that we know,” said the Fine Gael senator.
“So shop local to support Irish businesses and local jobs. Don’t forget many of our local shops are offering the option to click and collect. It’s not just the big international retailers offering online shopping.”
An Tánaiste Leo Varadkar recently launched a national #LookForLocal campaign which is showcasing local talent, crafts and gift ideas.
Senator Dolan said that supporting our neighbours’ jobs, income and businesses by keeping spend in the local economy brings benefits to us all, especially when these are the same shops that sponsor prizes for our clubs, schools and community groups.
“It has been an extremely difficult year for retailers right across the country and it is important to support them in the run up to Christmas,” she said.
“It is really important also that we continue to protect each other by wearing masks outdoors in crowded areas and keeping to public health guidelines.”
