Businesses in Galway are being encouraged to apply for Business Users Support Scheme for Kerosene before it closes this month.

To date, eight businesses in Galway have applied for the scheme, which was created to help those hit by the increased cost of kerosene in 2022.

Those figures were provided by Minister Simon Coveney in response to a question by Galway TD Claire Kerrane.

The BUSSK compensates eligible businesses for 50% of the increased cost of kerosene purchased from March to December last year, compared with the average price in the same period in 2021.

Minister Coveney remarked that the scheme was developed on the basis of feedback from businesses, and urged people to apply.

“The application process is straightforward and takes around half an hour to complete. Full details of how to apply are available online at bussk.ie“.

“I strongly encourage all eligible businesses to apply for payments from this scheme before the October 31 deadline.”

Average Kerosene prices during the 2022 eligible period were €1.32 per litre, compared to €0.70 per litre in the 2021 reference period.

The scheme is open to businesses which have a commercially rateable premises and purchased a minimum of 1,000 litres of Kerosene during the eligible period. There will be a minimum guaranteed payment of €500 under the BUSSK.
