Galway Youth Theatre will present Meat and Salt, Marina Carr’s fairy tale theatre piece for families, as part of this year’s Galway International Arts Festival 2023.

Directed by Andrew Flynn, Meat and Salt will be staged in Galway Arts Centre and Nun’s Island Theatre from 17 to 30 July, at 5pm, with no show on Sunday 23 July.

The play, based on Shakespeare’s King Lear, is suitable for ages 5+ and will run for around one hour.

It tells the tale of what happens when scrupulously honest Little Daughter tells tyrannical Big Daddy that she loves him as meat loves salt.

For her honesty, Little Daughter is banished from Big Daddy’s Kingdom. Eventually, she falls onto the Mountains of the Moon Hounds, and, after many adventures, meets The Young King who falls in love with her honesty.

They agree to marry and Big Daddy is invited to the feast, but a surprise will be waiting for him on the day.

Tickets are €12/14 and available here
