Former Galway hurler Joe Connolly will join Máirtín Tom Sheáinín on TG4 this Thursday evening as the award-winning broadcaster returns for a brand new series of the brilliant Comhrá.
The Castlegar man captained Galway Hurling in the All-Ireland Hurling Championship in 1980, and joins Máirtín to discuss many things including his childhood and his work with Galway hospice.
Having grown up right beside the Ballybrit racecourse, Joe tells Máirtín how it was the local training ground for all the local children be it GAA, soccer or rugby.
He tells Máirtín down about working at the racecourse in his youth and being there as a steward during Pope John Paul II’s visit in 1979.
Having six brothers, Joe recalls all seven being on the panel when Castlegar became All-Ireland Senior Club Champions after beating Ballycastle of Antrim in the same year they won the All-Ireland in 1980.
Joe has been a director of Galway Hospice since its inception and a board member for the past ten years.
Joe tells Máirtín about the exceptional work and support that the hospice provides for patients and their families who need and benefit from the services provided.
Watch Joe Connolly on Comhrá with Máirtín Tom Sheáinín this Thursday, 29 April 2021 at 7.30pm.
