Féile na bhFlaitheartach 2020 will not go ahead in its originally planned format at the end this month due to new government restrictions announced this week.

The organisers will announce details of the updated arrangements in the coming days.

The annual festival on Inis Mór was planned to take place over two days – the first day on the island itself, and then online the following day.

But following new government measures which restrict the number of people permitted to attend outdoor gatherings to 15, the organisers are making new arrangements.

The focus of this year’s Féile is the life and writings of another Aran scribe, the author and journalist Breandán Ó hÉithir, nephew of the famous O’Flaherty brothers.

He was born on Inis Mór 90 years ago and it has been 30 years since he passed away.

Breandán is well remembered for his witty and perceptive prose both in Irish and English: Lig Sinn í gCathú, Over The Bar and The Begrudger’s Guide to Irish Politics not to forget his journalistic work for the Irish Times and RTÉ.

Galway Daily will have the updated arrangements in the coming days.
