Two most promising rising stars of the piano world are aligning for the Music for Galway Piano Gourmand concert next week.

Yukine Kuroki from Japan, and Canadian Jaeden Izik-Dzurko, winners of the 2022 editions of the Dublin and Santander International Piano Competitions respectively, will come to give us a taste of their mesmerising art.

The two young virtuosi will perform a one-hour programme each in the Ballroom of the Hardiman Hotel on Saturday, February 3 at 3pm.

Both programmes draw heavily on the romantic repertoire and will give them ample opportunities to showcase their capability of conveying the range of feelings of their pieces of choice, while also not shying away from outbursts of acrobatics.

We can look forward to Yukine Kuroki’s programme which includes works by Mendelssohn and adaptations of the music of Saint-Saëns and Schubert by the piano acrobat par excellence, Franz Liszt.

Jaeden Izik-Dzurko also opens with a Liszt arrangement – this time of Bach – followed by works from piano giants such as Chopin and Rachmaninov.

Along with a gourmet programme for the ears, Music for Galway offers the treat of tea, coffee and scones during the interval, for those attending both concerts.

A Music for Galway Encore, an initiative that aims to maximise the impact of visiting artists and is part of MfG’s drive towards sustainability, will take Yukine and Jaeden to the Loughrea Hotel and Spa the following day, Sunday February 4.

There they will join the piano students of Athenry Music School for their Piano Festival. A triptych of piano concerts is planned, where the slightly shortened performance by the two stars will be framed by a galaxy of budding stars from the music school.

Tickets range from €10 to €30 and can be booked from www.musicforgalway.ie or 091 705962.

Concession rate applies to people aged over 66 and social inclusion tickets are available to children, students (full time), people in receipt of disability, carers and back-to-work allowance as well as to people seeking refuge and to refugees.
