Galway is getting back into music in a big way this month, but in case you can’t get to any of the concerts on around the city and county, Galway Music Residency has you covered with a pop-up music festival online for free this weekend.
3 Kinds of Music will give Galway audiences a tasty menu of classical, jazz, folk and traditional music to choose from on their social media channels from Friday to Sunday.
Curated by music mastermind Matthew Berrill, the digital edition will feature some of Ireland’s best emerging and established musicians in pop-up gigs.
Kicking off the weekend on Friday is much loved Sean-Nós dancer Emma O’Sullivan, who has enthralled locals and tourists alike with her street performances for years.
She will be enchanting audiences once again in a dance set accompanied by Shane Fahy on guitar and vocals, and Ronan Fahy on fiddle.
The following day, Galway’s Contempo Quartet are joined by Cork cellist Aoife Burke for a lively Boccherini quintet.
And for the stunning finale on Sunday, Galway singer-songwriter Niamh Regan, who released her debut album Hemet during the lockdown, is joined by the ConTempo Quartet, Aoife Burke and Matthew Berrill in a highly moving performance.
All of the music festival performances, which were filmed in The Mick Lally Theatre by Salty Productions will be available to enjoy for free on Facebook and YouTube at 1pm each day
