Galway Daily news Boil Water Notice issued for Clifden as water supply returns

To add to the difficulties people in Clifden have been having with their water supply lately, a Boil Water Notice has now been issued for the town.

Uisce Eireann has said that the notice has been issued as a precautionary measure for 1,578 customers on the Clifden Public Water Supply to allow for a period of water quality testing.

Clifden was without water for four days this week due to a leak that repair crews were unable to locate.

After multiple days of failing to locate the leak, an overground pipe was laid on Thursday to bypass the affected part of the network.

The reservoir has been refilling overnight and it is expected that homes and businesses in Clifden will see their water supply return over the course of Friday.

Uisce Eireann has said that as water is being restored to parts of the network, there may still be residues of older water in the pipework which may not be compliant with the drinking water regulations.

Uisce Éireann’s Regional Operations Manager Iarla Moran said that they regret the inconvenience to impacted customers.

“Public health is Uisce Éireann’s number one priority and we would like to assure customers that the notice has been put in place to protect public health.”

“We acknowledge the inconvenience caused to homes and businesses in Clifden with the recent water outages and would like to assure customers that we are working to lift this precautionary notice as quickly and as safely as possible.”

Water must be boiled for drinking, drinks made with water, preparation of food not cooked prior to eating, infant formula, brushing teeth, or making ice.

However, the water supply is still suitable for hygiene purposes, such as showering and hand-washing.
