A status yellow warning will come into effect this evening ahead as temperatures plummet well below freezing in many areas.
Met Éireann said that it will be very cold, with frost and ice developing, which will cause hazardous travelling conditions.
The warning begins at 6pm today, and will remain in place until midday on Friday.
A total of 23 counties in the State will be affected by the low temperature/ ice warning.
Nighttime temperature are expected to remain around freezing over the weekend, before slowly rising next week.
