Plans approved to build two new cafés in Galway City

Planning permission is being sought for the construction of two new cafés in Knocknacarra.

The application by Targeted Investment Opportunities ICAV is for a standalone building on the grounds of Gateway Retail Park in Knocknacarra.

This single-storey building will contain two café units, one of which will be a Costa Coffee, and the other remains unspecified.

The planning application states that having the cafés will contribute to a “broader range and mix of uses” within Gateway Retail Park.

“The proposal is intended to provide improved facilities for customers of the Knocknacarra
District Centre, as well as catering for the employee demand, thereby reducing the need for
employees to travel from the area to avail of facilities elsewhere.”

This application would supersede an already permitted development of a two-storey building with three café units on the same site.

A decision on this planning application is due from Galway City Council by December 12.
