Galway County Council’s decision to grant planning permission to Production Equipment UC for a new global headquarters in Athenry has been welcomed by Galway East TD Seán Canney.
Production Equipment Europe is a locally owned business that has developed into one of Europe’s leading industrial distribution companies, supplying over 100,000 products to customers across the globe.
The company has facilities in seven countries, employing 400 people, and it has chosen to develop its new strategic HQ in Athenry.
The 100,000 ft2 facility will contain highly automated and efficient operations with a focus on green technologies. The project represents a €25 million investment and will provide for 121 highly skilled jobs in Athenry once the facility is up and running.
“This is more positive news for Athenry and the region and follows on from the announcement by Dexcom to locate their Global Headquarters in Athenry creating 1,200 highly skilled jobs,” said Deputy Canney.
“It is very important that the Local Area Plan for Athenry now being developed considers the huge demand these developments will place on housing supply and the Local Area Plan needs to ensure the sufficient land is zoned for residential development and available over the next 5 years.
“The positive news regarding the All-Ireland Rail Review which supports the reopening of the Western Rail Corridor north from Athenry through Tuam and onto Claremorris is also very important influence on decisions being made by Global Companies on their location strategy.”
