Planning approval has been granted for a new mobile mast next to Woodlawn train station which is double the size of the one it’s replacing.
Eircom has received approval from the county council to take down a 10m high wooden pole at the Eir Exchange at Carrowmore, Woodlawn, and replace it with a 21m high monopole mast.
The proposed mast is intended for use by Eircom, Three, and Tetra.
Planning permission for the development was granted with 12 standard conditions attached.
The council had expressed concerns about the visual prominence of the new mast, and asked about the possibility of Eircom co-locating equipment on an existing mast used by other operators.
Information submitted in response stated that there is only one telecoms installation in the area which is already in use by two operators.
An Architectural Heritage Assessment and photomontages were also submitted to the council in response to concerns about the visual impact of the development.
A cover letter for the application states that the existing mast is incapable of supporting the equipment needed to upgrade eir’s services in the area.
“The proposed structure will enable eir to improve services within Woodlawn and introduce ‘good’ 4G & 5G coverage to the village,” the application states.
