Summer is quickly approaching, and there’s a lot planned in Galway between June, July, and August. While this summer will feature several sporting events, there will also be entertainment and arts and culture events you don’t want to miss.
Unmissable Events In Galway This Summer
Bingo Loco 90’s Special (June 2nd, 2023)
Bingo is one of the most popular games in Ireland, and there has been a considerable shift towards playing online bingo over the years. Online promotions, such as bingo offers at Paddy’s, have helped this shift. These offers include sign-up bonuses for new customers in the form of free tickets or cash bonuses and loyalty bonuses for existing customers, like free spins. But events like Bingo Loco have helped maintain the popularity of in-person bingo, and this time the bingo/rave event is coming to Galway. Bingo Loco will be in Galway on June 2nd with a twist: it’s a 90’s special event. The same beloved features of the event will be there, including music, confetti and dance parties in between bingo games, but the music will be all 90’s themed, and everyone will be in 90’s fancy dress.
Portumna Forest Marathon (June 10th, 2023)
The Portumna Forest Marathon will take place on June 10th. Surrounded by nature and greenery, the event will start at Forest Park, and runners can decide to partake in either a 10K, half-marathon or the entire 42 kilometres. Unlike traditional marathons, the Portumna Forest Marathon is run over a 5k loop, and the course is composed of tracked roads and gravel. Spectators are welcome at the event to cheer on runners.
Galway Film Fleadh (July 11-July 16, 2023)
The Galway Film Fleadh is an annual international film festival held every July. The event was founded in 1989 and is part of the Galway Arts Festival. Film submissions are currently open for the event, and past winners over the last few years include Stacey Gregg’s directorial debut, Here Before (2021). This psychological thriller premiered at South by Southwest and received an 82% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. While Galway Film Fleadh is expensive, US movie magazine MovieMaker said the event is worth the entry fee.
Tour de Conamara Cycling Event (May 28, 2023)
The Tour de Conamara event is part of the Celtic cycling series by ŠKODA. It’s one of Galway’s largest cycling events, and the loops are between 80-140 kilometers. Both loops start at Clifden and weave through the beautiful Connemara landscapes. Even if you’re not interested in participating in the actual event, there will be many things for spectators to keep themselves entertained as they cheer on the cyclists, like food stalls. The event takes place on May 28, 2023.
Galway Pride Festival (August 7th-August 13th, 2023)
Galway Pride Festival will also occur this summer from August 7th to August 13th. The festival has taken place every year since 1989 and includes various events, including a parade, film screens, and art exhibitions. There will also be a street party in celebration of pride.
Regardless of your interests, whether it’s running, bingo or you’re a film enthusiast, there’s something on for everyone in Galway this summer. What are you most looking forward to?
