TedFest is back this week as Inis Mór becomes the iconic Craggy Island for a weekend of fun once again, but the craic isn’t confined to the islands.
Events on the mainland have always been a feature of the whacky event and now finally, it’s the long-awaited return of the Tedfest “Toilet Duck” Awards on Thursday, March 2 at the Róisin Dubh.
The Toilet Duck Awards is a stand-up comedy competition featuring 16 of Ireland’s finest up and coming comedians in a comedic war of wits, battling it out until there’s only one left standing.
Established alongside Tedfest in 2007, and named after Father Jack’s favourite tipple, the competition quickly became a prestige event for emerging Irish Stand-Ups.
Previous winners include Bernard Casey, Sharon Mannion, Edwin Sammon & Danny O’Brien.
This year, the glorious victor will walk away with the spoils of war: the coveted Toilet Duck Award trophy, €300 cash, hundreds of euro worth of paid comedy club and festival spots, plus bragging rights and filthy looks from the losers.
Tedfest founder Peter Phillips said, “In the first year of Tedfest we wanted to acknowledge the legacy of stand-up in Father Ted.”
“Over the years, many Toilet Duck winners have gone on to have long careers in the business. We are excited to be working again with the Roisin Dubh.”
The Toilet Duck 2023 takes place on Thursday March 2, Róisin Dubh, Galway’s Westend. Doors 8pm, show 8:30pm. Tickets €8 in advance or €10 on the door. Hosted by Eddie Mullarkey.
