Galway primary pupils whose schools are competing in the search for ‘Ireland’s Fittest School’ are being encouraged to keep going over the coming weeks.

The contest’s patrons, Olympians David Gillick and Phil Healy, have told pupils to ‘double-down’ on their exercise and fitness routines as the event heads towards its March 31 finishing line.

The winner of the six-month programme will be announced in April.

Pupils from 150 schools in 24 counties are competing in this year’s programme, which is supported by Fyffes and administered online.

Its purpose is to promote the importance of exercise, fitness and healthy eating amongst young people.

Last year’s winner was Scoil Na Croise Naofa in Dunfanaghy, Co. Donegal.
