Galway Daily weather Ice warning issued as Met Eireann warns of hazardous conditions

There’s a yet left in the cold snap we’re experiencing this week, with Met Eireann issuing another weather warning for icy conditions tonight.

The status yellow Ice Warning for all of Ireland will be in effect from 7pm on Wednesday night until 12 midday on Thursday.

Wintry showers will continue this evening and overnight, with icy stretches creating hazardous driving conditions.

Patches of freezing fog are also possible, with some freezing rain expected in the southwest.

The weather advisory issued by Met Eireann last week for the arctic weather we’ve been experiencing is due to last until 9am on Friday.

Inland Galway has seen snow showers in the cold weather, and temperatures as low as -6 degrees were recorded at the Athenry weather station on Monday and Tuesday morning.

Things have already begun to improve, with lowest temperatures last night bottoming around 0 degrees, warmer on the coast.

The cold snap should have broken by Saturday, with temperatures picking up considerably by Saturday, though more rain showers are also expected.
