Irish Water has completed works to improve the state of the water supply in Eyrecourt by replacing 1.5km of leaky, old water mains.
The replacing of 1.5km of mains in Eyrecourt also enabled the lifting of the Boil Water Notice for the village earlier this month.
This was in place for seven months after low levels of chlorine and coliform bacteria were detected in part of the Ballinasloe Public Water Supply.
Outlining the benefits of the works, Gerry O’ Donnell, Water Network Programme Lead with Irish Water, said completion of this project is another step in improving Galway’s water network.
“The project will provide the local community with a safe and reliable water supply while also reducing the high leakage levels and improving water quality, enabling the lifting of the boil water notice.”
“I’m sure this is welcome news to the local community as they were previously impacted by a boil water notice, and unplanned outages when bursts occurred on the old water mains.”

The works in Eyrecourt were carried by Farrans Construction Ltd on behalf of Irish Water and the County Council.
