A family in the West has raised over €11,000 for the National Breast Cancer Research Institute at NUI Galway and the Oncology Unit at Mayo University Hospital.
Dorothy Biesty, a mum of two from Ballyhaunis in Mayo, was diagnosed with Breast Cancer last October – but thankfully due to the incredible care she received at BreastCheck Galway and the Oncology Unit in Castlebar, she is doing well and getting her life back on track.
To show their gratitude, Dorothy, her husband Austin and their girls Alicia and Shauna decided to organise a Shave or Dye fundraising event in their hometown.
The fundraiser took place at The Clock Bar in Ballyhaunis, receiving great support from family and friends.
Pink was the colour of the day with many people joining in the fun, having their hair cut and beards dyed, raising €11,077 in support of breast cancer care and research.
The money was divided evenly between the Oncology Unit in Castlebar and the National Breast Cancer Research Institute to help the development of breast cancer research.
