Over €700 has been raised so far in a fundraiser which has been set up to raise money for Bearna Tidy Towns.
Over the past 18 months the Tidy Towns committee has purchased equipment such as a lawnmower and tools to maintain common areas in the village.
They have built benches, flower boxes, renovated and planted the ball alley and there are also insurance costs which ensure the volunteers are covered as they are out litter picking.
The campaign’s organiser Sandra Kavanagh said she thinks everyone will agree that the works carried out to date have had a big impact on the village, benefiting residents, businesses and visitors.
“We announced a couple of months ago that we were fortunate to have been granted a grant by the Heritage council to significantly restore Tobar Eanna,” she said.
“This involves restoring the stone boundary wall, replacing a missing gate, information signage, replacement of gravel and other works, all of which will cost close to 13,000. The grant will cover 10,000 of this which will leave us with a shortfall of 3,000.
“In addition to this we hope to raise funds to continue our improvements in the village in the next 12 months.
“We appreciate every euro donated, and every donation is a recognition that the local community is behind us in our efforts to improve the village.”
