Met Éireann’s status yellow warning for blight has been extended until this weekend, with crop growers being warned that weather conditions which could lead to the spread of the disease will last until Friday night.

The forecasters say that conditions conductive to potato blight will develop at times over the next two days, especially in coastal areas.

Met Éireann says that there will be opportunities for spraying on Thursday.

The warning for blight was first issued last weekend, with the latest update issued on Wednesday afternoon.

This status yellow warning will expire at 11.30pm on Friday night, 8 July.

As well as Galway, Met Éireann says that Donegal, Clare, Kerry, Leitrim, Mayo, and Sligo are also at risk.
