The status yellow rain warning for Galway and ten other counties will begin at 6pm today, and remain in place until 6pm on Saturday.
The 24-hour warning was initially expected to come into force at 12 midday today but Met Éireann’s warning will now start at 6pm after it was changed yesterday evening.
The forecasters warned that heavy showers or longer spells of rain with thundery downpours may lead to spot flooding, with the highest rainfall totals likely to be near the west coast on high ground.
The warning will affect Galway, and all other counties in Connacht and Munster.
