galway daily weather weather warning for heavy rain in effect

A 24-hour weather warning has been issued for Galway ahead of heavy rain forecast for tomorrow and Saturday.

The status yellow rain warning was issued by Met Éireann this morning, and will begin at 12 midday on Friday.

The forecasters say there will be heavy showers or longer spells of rain, and thundery downpours could lead to spot flooding.

Ten other counties in the south and west are affected by the alert – Clare, Cork, Kerry, Leitrim, Limerick, Mayo, Roscommon, Sligo, Tipperary, and Waterford.

The warning is set to be lifted at midday on Saturday.

Further spells of rain and showers are then forecast across the country during Saturday night.

Sunday will see a mix of sunny spells and widespread heavy and possibly thundery showers.

Sunday night will continue much the same, with scattered showers heaviest and most frequent in the west and northwest.

Lowest temperatures will be 8 to 12 degrees with light to moderate south to southwest winds.
