UHG sees sharp decline in COVID cases

The number of COVID-19 patients at University Hospital Galway has declined rapidly over the past week.

As of Monday night there were just six confirmed cases at UHG, down from 21 cases a week ago.

Three of the COVID patients at University Hospital Galway are being treated in the intensive care unit, just one fewer than last week.

UHG, Cork UH, and St. James all have the same number of ICU patients being treated for the virus, the highest number in the country.

At Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe, there are four confirmed cases, one fewer than the previous day, but up from two a week before.

One of the patients at Portiuncula is in the intensive care unit, which has remained unchanged in recent days.

Nationwide there were just 261 COVID-19 cases being treated in Irish hospitals as of Monday evening, of whom 28 are in the ICU.
