Traffic disruption is expected in Ballinasloe in the coming weeks due to works taking place on the local water network.
Irish Water is replacing the water mains at the Creagh junction, with work due to commence in the coming days.
To facilitate these works, traffic management measures will be in place between the Creagh Road (R357) and Church Street (R446) junctions, but local and emergency traffic will be maintained at all times.
There may also be some short term water outages associated with these works, for which affected homes will be notified in advance.
Gerry O’Donnell of Irish Water said that this project, along with the replacement of 1.6km of mains along the R446 from Mackney Roundabout to Banerton’s Garage, will result in fewer outages for local homes.
“Working in partnership with Galway County Council, we have prioritised leakage reduction works to those areas which need it most.”
“These two projects, which will see the replacement of almost 2km of old water mains, will significantly reduce the number of bursts and outages in Ballinasloe.”
“The works will safeguard the supply in the region now and into the future and support growth and development in the area.”
The works on both projects are expected to be completed by the early summer.
