Galway Daily news Speed limits reduced on busy city road for five months

Galway City Council has ordered the speed limits reduced on roads approaching the Martin Roundabout while its conversion is underway.

From Monday, reduced speed limits will come into effect on the roads lanes approaching the Martin Roundabout from the Coolagh Roundabout, and the eastern approach from the direction of Oranmore.

The Martin Roundabout is currently in the process of being converted into a signalised junction, with the works expected to take several months.

The city council has said that speed limits are being reduced to improve the safety of motorists and road workers during this period.

From Monday, February 28 the limits approaching it shall be:

  • 80km/hr – R446 Eastbound from a point from a point 80m south of the Coolagh Roundabout for a distance of approximately 170m
  • 50km/hr – R446 Eastbound from a point from a point 250m south of the Coolagh Roundabout for a distance of approximately 1200m
  • 50km/hr – R446 Westbound from a point 880m east of the Martin Roundabout for a distance of approximately 1400m

These limits will apply until August 5, or any earlier date specified by the council.
