A new project has been launched in Galway which aims to support people who are unemployed due to physical, sensory or mental health difficulties to secure jobs.
Inclusive Pathways to Employment is an initiative from Galway City Partnership (GCP) working in collaboration with Galway Chamber.
The project will include a number of practical steps to help those who are looking to gain employment, education, training or volunteering opportunities.
A dedicated Employer Liaison Officer, Sharon Doyle, has also been newly appointed to deliver on the project commitments.
Speaking about the project, GCP CEO, Declan Brassil said: “Our company offers a range of Government funded supports to the unemployed of the city and, in doing so, has recognised that some people are disabled from participating in the open labour market for a range of reasons both personal and societal.
“We see the need for close working relationships between ourselves, unemployed people and employers to overcome the barriers to employment experienced by those accessing our services.”
His remarks were echoed by Galway Chamber President Aengus Burns who said that for too long, people who experience various difficulties have been held back.
“A lot of people who can make really valuable contributions to the workplace have not had the opportunity to do so,” he said.
“This project seeks to address that – to level the playing field so that people’s talents and skills can be utilised and they can receive the professional recognition their abilities deserve.
“We believe this is a very important initiative which adds significantly to the social cohesion of Galway and it is a project that Galway Chamber is honoured to support.”
