A City Councillor is calling for a review of where GoSafe speed detection vans are located in the city, citing concerns with several locations.
Councillor Alan Cheevers said that he has spoken with the Joint Policing Committee regarding his concerns about the location of certain GoSafe vans.
“I believe we need to review two locations. One on Old Monivea Road which parks on a public footpath, and the other on Newcastle Road at the entrance to one of the University buildings.”
“I don’t believe they are proper locations, and need to be reviewed. I think a full review of locations of Go Safe vans needs to be done,” Alan Cheevers said.
GoSafe operates speed camera vans on behalf of An Garda SÃochána at 1,322 zones around the country.
The primary purpose of safety cameras is to reduce speed related collisions, lessen injuries and save lives.
These speed camera vans are to operate in areas where there has been a history of speed related collisions.
