A remembrance vigil for the 50th anniversary of Bloody Sunday will take place in Galway City this weekend.

The Galway branch of Sinn Féin plan to hold an anniversary remembrance in Eyre Square this Sunday, January 30th.

The vigil will take place at The Fountain in Eyre Square, starting from 4pm.

Bloody Sunday saw 14 people killed by members of a British Parachute Regiment in Derry on January 30, 1972.

A total of 26 unarmed civilians were shot by the British soldiers following a civil rights march against internment in the Bogside area of Derry.
