A vigil will take place at Eyre Square this evening for Ashling Murphy and against gender-based violence.
The candle lit vigil, organised by NUI Galway Students’ Union, will take place at 6pm and people are invited to bring along tea lights or flowers.
22-year-old Ashling Murphy was out for a run yesterday afternoon in Tullamore, Co. Offaly when she was murdered.
From the Blueball area of Tullamore, Aisling was a school teacher in Durrow National School.

A full scale murder investigation was launched by Gardaà yesterday, and the scene was sealed off.
Gardaà say that at this stage there is no information that the killer was known to Aisling.
A 40-year-old man was arrested and is currently detained at Tullamore Garda Station.
