Tuam Co-Operative Mart has announced that it has postponed its first sale of the year due to COVID-19.

The Mart was due to hold its opening Sheep Sale this Tuesday, Janaury 4.

However, it was announced over the weekend that this has been postponed “in the interest of staff and customer safety”.

The auction will now take place next week on Tuesday, January 11 at 5pm.

The Mart apologised for any inconvenience that this decision has caused.

Ireland has been dealing with a surge in COVID cases over the Christmas and New Year period cause by the Omicron variant.

There were a further 17,071 cases reported yesterday, and even this is down from multiple days over Christmas where there were more than 20,000 cases, setting multiple daily records.
