A status yellow weather warning has been issued by Met Éireann today ahead of heavy rain expected to batter the West coast on Thursday evening.
The warning for Galway and Mayo will come into force tomorrow, Thursday at 5.00pm and will be lifted at 1.00am on Friday morning.
Heavy rainfall over a relatively short period of time could lead to localised flooding, with the highest accumulations of rain expected in the west of Galway and Mayo.
The warning for the two counties was issued this afternoon, after an updated advisory for rain and wind was announced yesterday by Met Éireann for all counties in the Republic.
