People in Galway City eligible for a COVID-19 booster shots are being urged to get jabbed amid reports of many ghosted appointments.

HSE Chief Executive highlighted at a briefing last week that up to 50% of people called for a vaccine booster shot were not attending their appointments.

City Councillor Alan Cheevers said that it is extremely important that people come forward for their booster shots.

The large rise in cases in recent weeks across the country makes it important to have as much protection from the virus as possible, he added.

There have been just under 513,000 additional doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered in Ireland up to last Sunday.

This includes 67,000 people who are immunocompromised, and therefore at greatest risk from the virus.

Booster shots are currently available for people over 50, healthcare workers,  and those with an underlying condition.
