National Broadband Ireland will be holding pop-up information events in Gort this weekend so people can ask about the fibre broadband coming to their area.
The events will take place on Friday & Saturday, October 22-23 at Market Square in Gort from 10am to 4pm each day.
The events will enable people to get clarity about when fibre broadband will be delivered to their area, and how to sign up. Staff from NBI will also be on hand to get people registered for updates on the roll-out in their area.
Peter Hendrick, CEO of National Broadband Ireland said, “National Broadband Ireland is excited about the opportunity to engage directly with the people of Gort”.
He added that they want to “give them information about when high-speed broadband will be available, let them know how they can connect to the NBI network and how they can register for progress updates specific to their Eircode.”
NBI currently has construction underway to bring fibre to 2,618 premises in the townlands in the Gort Intervention Area, which includes Ardrahan, Tubber, Grove Road, Cloonmolly, Peterswell, Boley, Kilkeddy, Blakemount, Foxtail Hill, Derrybrien and Boston among others.
All of these premises are already able to order the high-speed fibre broadband services being built.
Once these premises are available to order, these customers can choose their broadband services from a retail service provider of their choice.
Along with the residential connections, part of the National Broadband Plan includes the delivery of Broadband Connection Points at public facilities such as sports clubs, community centres, and tourists sites.
There are 21 BCPs in Galway, seven of which have already been connected, including Lettermullen Community Centre, Inis Mór Library, Leitrim Ballydugan Community Centre and Comhar Caomhán Teo.
In total, there are 38,714 premises in the Intervention Area (IA) in County Galway, which includes homes, farms, commercial businesses and schools, equaling 28% of all premises in the county.
