COVID cases in Galway hospitals continue to rise

The number of people being treated for COVID-19 has jumped to 55 in the latest figures from the HSE.

As of Tuesday night there were 44 confirmed cases at University Hospital Galway, three more than the night before.

At Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe the number of COVID patients increased from eight to eleven in the past day.

Five at the patients at UHG and, two of those at Portiuncula, have been admitted to the ICU for treatment.

Nationwide there were 452 people in the country hospitalised with COVID, of whom 74 are being treated in intensive care units.

There were a further 2,399 confirmed cases reported in Ireland yesterday, the highest daily numbers since late January.
