An Italian television channel is filming in Galway and along the Wild Atlantic Way this week.
La7 is filming two episodes for its popular prime time TV show Eden – Un pianeta da salvare, meaning Eden – A planet to save.
Each episode, which will air to an estimated 660,000 viewers in Italy, will showcase the county’s spectacular landscapes and nature, also focusing on sustainable tourism.
Filming is taking place at places such as Eyre Square, Salthill and Dunguaire Castle and the TV crew has enjoyed a guided tour of Saint Nicholas’ Collegiate Church and a visit to Galway City Museum.
They are also filming people involved in sustainable tourism.
Ornella Gamacchio, Tourism Ireland’s Manager Italy, said: “Tourism Ireland is delighted to support the filming of ‘Eden – Un pianeta da salvare’.
“With around 660,000 people across Italy expected to watch each episode, it’s a great way to shine a spotlight on Galway and the West of Ireland – highlighting our spectacular scenery, as well as sustainable tourism.
“It will remind viewers across Italy why Ireland is a great choice for a holiday.”
Tourism Ireland says that publicity and broadcasts like this are a key element of its programme of activity, to keep Ireland front and centre in the minds of future visitors from Italy and elsewhere around the world, to rebuild tourism to Ireland.
