Galway Daily news Galway family syndicate "laughing, cheering and crying" after €250,000 Lotto win

Tonight’s lotto jackpot is the highest that’s been up for grabs in more than a decade, with an estimated €15 million in the pot today.

The last time a jackpot passed this milestone was in October 2010 when a Dublin winner scooped the life-changing amount of €16,390,239.

Since 1998, when the Lotto was first launched, there have only been five instances where a jackpot exceeding this monumental sum has gone to a lucky player.

The current Lotto jackpot has been rolling since Wednesday, June 9 and the National Lottery has confirmed that almost €24.6 million will have been raised for Good Causes in the current Lotto jackpot roll-over series.

Over the last 34 years, this fund has been allocated to support worthwhile causes and local community projects all over Ireland.

A National Lottery spokesperson said “It’s set to be a big weekend for Lotto players all over the country with the buzz around the jackpot growing as we have not seen a jackpot of this size in over 10 years.”

“A potential single winner of the estimated €15 million jackpot could find themselves in the Lotto hall of fame as the sixth largest jackpot winner in the history of the game in Ireland.”

“As well as the life-changing jackpot on offer, Saturday night’s draw will mark our fourth Lotto Plus Raffle promotion of the year.”

“We are reminding players who are hoping to be one of the big winners celebrating after tomorrow night’s draw to buy their tickets early either in-store, in-app or at www.lottery.ie ahead of the 7.45pm cut-off time for ticket sales tomorrow night.”

On top of the colossal top prize up for grabs, an additional €1 million has been pumped into tonight’s Lotto Plus Raffle prize fund.

The Lotto Plus Raffle typically sees between 80 and 120 winners of €500 in every draw but tomorrow night, players are set for a boost in their winnings.

With the big boost for tonight’s draw, the National Lottery estimates that each winner will receive between €8,000 and €12,500.
