Women at all stages of pregnancy can now avail of a COVID-19 vaccine at their nearest vaccination centre, following new guidance from NIAC.
Pregnant women will be offered a Pfizer or Moderna vaccine and the HSE is encouraging them to take up the vaccine when it is offered after a discussion with their midwife, GP or obstetrician.
Dr Deirdre Grady, Medical Lead for the Vaccination Programme for the West and North West, has urged all pregnant women to avail of the vaccine.
“All the evidence shows that COVID-19 vaccines are safe and this is an opportunity for all women, no matter where they are on their pregnancy journey, to protect themselves and their babies,” said Dr Grady.
“Speak to your obstetrician, midwife or GP about the vaccine. Women can attend for a vaccine at walk-in vaccinations centres right around the region or by booking through the portal.”
Factual and updated information on the COVID-19 vaccine is available on the HSE website and the health service has encouraged all women to read the information, and to discuss vaccination with their obstetric caregiver.
