High pressure looks set to dominate next week across Ireland, bringing much more sunshine with the highest temperatures in the low 20s.
But before the more pleasant conditions arrive on Monday, the rest of this week will be mostly cloudy, with showers and more persistent rain at times.
Met Éireann says Thursday will be cloudy again across Galway with patchy rain and drizzle, and it will be misty in places too.
The cloud will start to break up in the evening though, allowing some late bright or sunny intervals to develop. Highest temperatures will be between 17 and 20 degrees.
Outbreaks of rain will develop in the West early on Thursday night before edging slowly eastwards overnight to affect much of the country by morning.
Friday will be a wet day with outbreaks of rain, turning heavy at times, with a chance of some thundery downpours.
Maximum temperatures will range 17 to 21 degrees Celsius on Friday, in moderate southeasterly winds, fresh and gusty on exposed coasts.
Saturday will start mostly dull and damp but it will brighten up from the west during the morning and afternoon.
Heavy thundery showers could develop during the afternoon and evening, bringing a risk of spot flooding, especially in the West.
Sunday looks set to be another cloudy day, with brighter spells developing in the afternoon and evening.
The early forecast for the first few days of next week is that high pressure will dominate, bringing much more sunshine and higher temperatures across the country.
