After a long wait, summer has finally arrived, with temperatures expected to reach a very pleasant 25 degrees over the weekend.

And the beautiful sunshine forecast for Galway looks set last well into next week and temperatures will remain in the mid-20s from Saturday.

Met Éireann says that sunny spells will develop on Friday afternoon, with highs of around 22 degrees in parts of Galway. It will be slightly cooler around the coast as sea breezes develop – but winds will be light.

Saturday and Sunday will also be very warm, bringing long spells of sunshine and blue skies across West. Daytime temperatures over the weekend will reach 23 to 27 degrees nationally, reaching 24 or 25 degrees in Galway.

Met Éireann’s early forecast for next week also makes for positive reading, as Monday and Tuesday are expected to bring sunny and warm conditions across Ireland.

The weather experts have warned people who work outdoors that they are exposed to two to there times more UV radiation from the sun than people who work indoors, putting them at high risk of skin cancer.

They have urged people to be ‘sun smart’ and to protect their skin from harmful UV rays.
