Galway Daily news Aran Islands lifeboat called to night time medical evacuation

The Aran Islands RNLI lifeboat crew were called out on Sunday night for a woman in need of medical attention on the mainland.

The all weather lifeboat launched just after 8pm on Sunday night for a medical evacuation of a woman from Inis Mór.

Weather conditions at the time of launching were good with calm seas and a light westerly breeze blowing, with fair visibility.

The lady was transferred to the lifeboat, and from there, directly to Ros a Mhíl harbour, and a waiting ambulance.

Speaking after the call out, Aran Islands RNLI Coxswain Tommy Dirrane said “There was a great response time from the crew which ensured we could promptly get the patient on her way to the medical attention she needed.”

He went on to wish the woman a speedy recovery, and to issue a reminder for beach goers not to swim alone, as well as to wear a lifejacket if going out to sea.
