The Department of Health has reported 524 new cases of COVID-19 this afternoon.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan has said that NPHET is watching the Indian variant with concern, which could ‘pose a risk to the progress we have made’.

Health officials say 72 cases of the so called Indian variant of COVID-19 have been detected in Ireland to date.

“NPHET will keep a close eye on this as we move towards the end of May and consider the advice we need to provide to Government on any further easing of restrictions,” said Dr Tony Holohan.

No county breakdowns of cases have been published this week as a result of the cyber attack on the HSE.
