Galway Daily news Entries open for Galway City Tidy Towns and Garden competition 2021

Entries are now being accepted for the Galway City Tidy Towns and Garden Competition 2021.

The Tidy Towns competition is back after being cancelled last year, and as we are gradually allowed back into each other’s garden’s and communities, now is the perfect time to show them at their best.

Competition categories include best front garden, best residential estate, best shop-front, best community project and best school.

On top of looking for the cleanest and most aesthetically pleasing gardens and neighbourhoods, this year’s competition is bringing an added environmental aspect.

In line with Galway City Council’s objectives in the Biodiversity Action Plan (2014-2024) and the National Pollinator Plan (2021-2025); from this year, gardeners are being asked to enhance their gardens and green spaces for wildlife and pollinating bees and insects.

For gardens and green spaces to be good for pollinators, they need to provide food in the form of flowers, shelter for nesting and safety from chemicals.

This year judges will be awarding marks for enhancing and promoting Biodiversity and pollinator friendly spaces.

Completed applications should be submitted no later than the closing date of 4:00pm Friday 28th May 2021.
