NUI Galway has launched its Diversity Week programme of events today which will run until Saturday 17 April.
The free online events are open to the entire NUI Galway community and are a chance for people to come together and celebrate our differences.
Events taking place include panel discussions looking at the Black Lives Matter movement and diversity in sport.
There will also be talks on diversity in politics and the history of Pride in Ireland. Online social events will include a cooking class, the Stitch & Bitch knitting group, and the ever popular Hump Day Hoolie.
“We are very excited about our Diversity Week events which will give everyone at NUIG the opportunity to learn more about each other,” said SU Pádraic Toomey.
“We want to amplify the voices of the diverse groups at NUI Galway and show that we are all different strands of the same University community.
“This is a great chance to learn more about our differences and also our similarities.”
Students’ Union Vice-President/Welfare and Equality Officer Róisín Nic Lochlainn added that the Students’ Union represents all NUI Galway students and they want to make sure that all of their members feel acknowledged and represented this Diversity Week.
“We have some amazing speakers lined up who will be sharing their lived experiences with us,” said Róisín.
“These events are about respecting and appreciating what makes us different.”
