Five people with COVID-19 are now receiving care in ICU at University Hospital Galway, as of 8pm yesterday evening.
New HSE figures show there is also one confirmed case in critical care at Portiuncula University Hospital, while there are five COVID patients in total at the hospital in Ballinasloe. There are currently nine confirmed cases at UGH.
Eight intensive care beds are available between the Galway hospitals – two beds are available in the ICU at Portiuncula and six at University Hospital Galway.
Across the Republic, 250 people diagnosed with Covid-19 were in hospitals at 8.00pm yesterday, of whom 56 were in intensive care units. More than 10% of the total number of COVID patients in ICUs are in Galway.
Health officials reported an additional 457 cases of COVID-19 yesterday afternoon, as well as three further deaths related to the disease.
