COVID-19: 24 deaths reported today, and 25 Galway cases

An additional 24 deaths related to COVID-19 have been notified by the Department of Health today, along with 371 new cases.

Of today’s cases, 25 are in Galway, the fourth highest figure in the country behind Dublin (151), Offaly (31), and Donegal (27).

The 14-day incidence rate in Galway is now 138 cases per 100,000 people, and 356 cases have been reported here in the past two weeks.

Twelve of the deaths reported today occurred this month, while 10 happened in February, and two in January.

The age of those who died ranged from 49 to 100 years old, and the median age of the victims was 85.

As of 8am this morning there were 357 people hospitalised with COVID-19 in Ireland, of whom 76 are in the ICU.

There have now been a total of 4,610 deaths related to COVID-19 in Ireland, and 231,484 confirmed cases in the country since the start of the pandemic.

Validation of data at the HPSC has resulted in the denotification of two deaths and six confirmed cases.

Of the cases notified today:

  • 183 are men and 187 are women
  • 75% are under 45 years of age
  • the median age is 30 years old
  • 151 in Dublin, 31 in Offaly, 27 in Donegal, 25 in Galway, 21 in Meath and the remaining 116 cases are spread across 16 other counties

As of last Sunday there were 675,946 doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered in Ireland, with 183,840 people fully vaccinated.
