COVID-19: Hospital cases rise at Portiuncula

The number of people hospitalised with COVID-19 in Galway has increased to 10, due to an uptick in cases at Portiuncula Hospital.

Portiuncula Hospital, which had dropped to zero cases on multiple days recently, now reports four confirmed cases of COVID-19.

There are a further six cases at University Hospital Galway, down from eight the day before, along with two suspected cases.

The number of patients in Intensive Care in Galway remains the same, with three ICU admissions at UHG and none at Portiuncula.

Nationwide there were 343 people hospitalised with COVID-19 as of 8pm on Wednesday according to the latest HSE figures.

Of those, 82 patients had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, and 56 had to be placed on ventilators.
